SPECIAL LIBRARY OPENING HOURS [5 Jan 2002]

SPECIAL LIBRARY OPENING HOURS: Please note that the Library always posts special library opening hours on the library website 2 weeks before the designated opening hours begin. To let users alert of the special arrangement, our webmaster will also create a new icon on the left hand side of the website, and place a message in the first line of "SHORTCUTS" to link with the piece of information. In addition, special opening hours will be placed on the University's electronic bulletin board.

HOLD REQUESTS [14 Dec 2001]

HOLD REQUESTS: The Library checks the "Hold File" each day and see if there is any requested title which is already overdue but not returned. We will send an overdue notice to the user if such an item is there. The library system will suspend the user's borrowing privilege and fines will be accumulated if the user still does not return the item to us. We will call the user and remind him / her to do so as well.

NOTICE OF CARD EXPIRATION [28 Oct 2001]

NOTICE OF CARD EXPIRATION: With effect from November 2001, the Library will notify holders of graduate library cards and external borrower / reader cards of card expiration via email and on a monthly basis.

CHINESE INPUT METHODS [28 Sep 2001]

CHINESE INPUT METHODS: To save computer memory, we only install selected Chinese input methods which are commonly used in Hong Kong. As the library has recently upgraded our PCs, and the input method (注音輸入法) requested by you is bundled with Chinese Windows 98, we are quite happy to include it on our workstations.

NOISE PRODUCED BY VACUUM [27 Sep 2001]

NOISE PRODUCED BY VACUUM: The cleaners conduct vacuum cleaning of carpet before the Library opens at 8:45 a.m. on weekdays. Except for special requirement, no vacuum of floors will be carried out during the regular Library service hours. Concerning the noise produced on 2/F near the Newspaper Reading Area, a vacuum is used to pump the water flooded on the ground. Due to building defects, we do not have any alternative solution at this moment.

DMS COURSE [20 Sep 2001]

DMS COURSE:

1. The DMS booklet is printed by the Business Programmes Office (BPO), we have already reminded the Office to put in the information of application for a Library Card in the booklet.

2. The Library Card is valid for one year from the date issued. The expiry date is not affected by the date when
the payment for DMS is made.

SUGGESTIONS ON LIBRARY WORKSHOPS [18 Sep 2001]

SUGGESTIONS ON LIBRARY WORKSHOPS: We have put together some user guides, tutorials and online helps written by the vendor or by library colleagues on the following web page: http://www.library.ln.edu.hk/usrguide/

We also plan to put some, if not all, of the handouts for our workshops on the above web page after the workshops, probably some time in Oct.

NOISE IN THE LIBRARY [18 Sep 2001]

NOISE IN THE LIBRARY: The library staff have regular patrol over the public area. If anybody or group of users are found making a loud noise, they will be reminded to keep silent in the Library or book a Library Collaborative Workroom for discussion. When you happen to see anybody talking loudly, please report to the Circulation Counter and appropriate action will be taken.

NOISE IN THE LIBRARY [17 Sep 2001]

NOISE IN THE LIBRARY: Please note that janitors vacuum the floor and empty the trash before the Library opens.  Since the Library has relatively long opening hours, some housekeeping works must be carried out when the Library opens. Staff are already reminded to minimize the noise level. We understand that the vacuum in the 2/F near the Newspaper Area is producing a great deal of noise. However, due to the flooding problem, we do not have any good solution at this moment.

SUGGESTIONS ON LIBRARY WEB PAGES [ 29 May 2001]

SUGGESTIONS ON LIBRARY WEB PAGES: The library is going to revamp the library web pages in the coming semester. In order to obtain user suggestions on the library web pages, we will conduct an " Online Library Web Page Survey" in next week. The contents and design of the new library web pages will be enhanced based on to user suggestions.
