Borrower's Identification & Privileges

Lingnan University students and staff should use their University ID Cards to borrow library materials. Other eligible borrowers are JULAC Library (Borrower) Card holders and users who have valid borrower's cards.

Graduates of Lingnan University are eligible to apply for a free Reader's card at the Circulation Counter. They may also apply for a Borrower's card at a non-refundable annual fee of $200 plus a one time refundable deposit of $500.

Mentioned University ID Cards or Library cards are not transferable. Loss of cards or change of address must be reported to the appropriate University authorities without delay.

Renewals

General Collections items can be renewed online or at the Circulation Counter, provided that no hold request has been made for the same item by other users.
Moreover, overdue General Collection items can also be online renewed provided that students and staff do not have unsettled fines payment equals to HK$5 or above.
Student and staff (Type A, B and C) have 3 days grace period on overdue General Collection and HKALL items, that means items that are returned or renewed within 3 days from the due date, overdue fines will not be charged.

 

Holds and Recalls

  1. HOLD: Click "REQUEST" in 1-Search, users can place hold requests for books on display or exhibition and books in the General Collection.
    The hold quota for each type of users are as follows,

  2. MORE THAN 1 HOLD: If there are more than 1 hold to any item, the loan period will be shortened to 1 week for students and 2 weeks for staff and postgraduate students.
  3. IN PROCESS of CATALOGUING ITEMS: Users can request "In Process of Cataloguing" items through click "REQUEST" in 1-Search. Items requested for immediate process will be ready for pick up within 3 working days.
  4. PICK-UP: When your requested item is available, a pick-up message will be sent to you by e-mail or SMS and also shown on your online circulation record. You may then go to the Circulation Counter to pick up your item. Please note that the Circulation Counter will hold your items for 3 days only.
  5. RECALL: Books charged out by Borrower Type A, B, C, D & F are subject to recall 14 days after they have been charged out and should be returned within 7 days after the recall notice is sent out. HKALL charged out by users are subject to recall 15 days after they have been charged out and should be returned within 7 days after the recall notice is sent out.

 

Reserve Materials

Selected course textbooks and supplementary materials may be put on reserve at Circulation/Media Counter with restricted loan periods as requested by the academic staff.

 

Loss and Damage

Borrowers are requested to check books before they borrow. Missing or torn pages should be reported immediately. Borrowers will be held responsible for any loss, mutilation, damage or disfigurement of their loans. The cost of replacement with an additional processing fee (HK$100) plus any accumulated fine will be charged. Damaged library materials shall remain properties of the University and Library users may not keep the damaged items after they have paid for their replacements.

* If the cost of replacement cannot be verified (e.g. gift or out of print title), an average book price of HK$500 will be charged.

Circulation Counter will be closed 15 minutes before the Library closes.
 

Patron accounts with overdue fines equal to HK$5 or more will be temporarily blocked for further borrowing. You should clear the fines in order to resume your borrowing privilege.

 

24-Hour Book Drops

The Lingnan University Library has 3 book drops located at:

  • 1/F Library entrance
  • G/F Main Building near the University entrance
  • The covered corridor at 1/F SEK Building

DO NOT return the following materials in a book drop:

  • AV & Multimedia materials
  • 3-hour Reserve items
  • Interlibrary loan items from other UGC-funded institutions

All books borrowed should be returned on or before the due date.

 

Missing Item Search

When the user hasn't found the item on the shelf twice, he/she can fill in a form of "Record of Missing Items" at the Circulation Counter. When the item is found, a notice will be sent to the user and then the item will be placed on the Hold Shelf.

 

In Process of Cataloguing Items Request

Library users may request an in process of cataloguing item through click "REQUEST" in 1-Search. The item will be processed immediately, and will be ready for pick-up in 3 working days after the request is made. When your requested item is available, a pick-up message will be sent to you by e-mail or SMS and also shown on your online circulation record. You may then go to the Circulation Counter to pick up your item. Please note that the Circulation Counter will hold your items for 3 days only.

 

Departure from the University

Staff members and students are responsible for returning all loans and settling any outstanding fines before departing upon cessation of employment, withdrawal or graduation from the University.
